Never Doubt That A Small Group Of Thoughtful, Committed Citizens Can Change The World.
— MARGARET MEAD, ANTHROPOLOGIST

The people of Texas invest significant funding into the education of children with disabilities through their local, state, and federal taxes. And while it is likely that greater investment would contribute to better opportunities for results, there is also ample reason to question if this money is being spent effectively. Too many families find themselves engaged in a climate of denial, and too many special educators report frustration in systems designed around minimizing the supports, specialized instruction, and related services students need for success. Elected officials are frustrated by an endless supply of special education problems, and educational agencies from the state level to local districts have built walls between themselves and frustrated stakeholders. Texas special education is like a big bureaucratic dysfunctional family that has become addicted to the fight while its children suffer.

Texans for Special Education Reform seeks to change all that.

We are creating a powerful alliance of parents and caretakers, students, educators, advocates and allies to build the leading grass-roots organization dedicated solely to special education reform. We have a vision to break the cycle, to replace conflict with collaboration and to build bridges instead of walls that put the students at the center of good policies and best practices to prepare them for their futures. We are working with dedicated front-line educators, disability experts, and creative idea makers.

Texans for Special Education Reform is creating a vision of possibilities.

We are focused on building alliances, awareness, and policies centered around protecting the educational civil rights of children with disabilities and improving their opportunities for successful transition to adulthood.

We envision a state in which all individuals with disabilities are identified, and receive an education that maximizes their future potential for post-secondary education, employment, community participation, and independent living.
